This is one of my mew go-to recommendations for a really nice solid top, deep sounding uke. Redwood is rarely used in factory builds but very common in custom models – in fact two out of my four performing ukes have redwood tops. Redwood beings out the warmth in an ukulele. Paired with a nice deep body size what you get is a very nice warm sound with decent volume. The wide nut on these (similar to Kanile’a) give your fingers plenty of room for the trickiest of chords. The back and sides and laminate spalted maple which is really stunning. Don’t be out off by the laminate – the solid top produces list of the tone, with the back and sides there to reflect the sound out.
To get a solid redwood top on a uke this price is a real achievement by Baton Rouge and these come highly recommended.
