We’re delighted to now stock Cordoba Ukuleles. For years I’ve shied away from guitar brands that have gone into ukuleles but Cordoba are a different matter. Cordoba are specialists in nylon stringed instruments and understand how to build instruments that really sing open and clear. This is certainly evident in all the ukuleles we’ve just received.
This is a really cool model featuring Ovangkol (solid top, laminate back and sides.) Ovangkol is a wood being used more and more by luthiers nowadays as, similar to rosewood, it has a really nice balanced mid-response and what I would describe as a slightly darker tone than softwood tops. I think this one would be great for blues and jazz playing, but it can handle anything. This model features a nice 1.5 inch but width but (the same as Kanile’a ukes) which gives your fingers much more room when fretting chords.
And of course – it looks the part too. The ovangkol has a deep chocolatey brown colour which contrasts nicely with some subtlely lighter top and back binding. I really like that the fretboard is also bound so your fingers don’t feel the frets as they slide up and down the neck.
