Here’s a very special tenor with a difference that we have on commission for a customer. Ono ukes are made by the very talented David Ingalls in Oregon, USA. It’s incredibly rare to get one of these in the U.K. This model is a special custom with an 18 inch scale. This is one inch longer than most tenor ukes scale lengths and means that you get even more sustain and volume. It also means that the uke can be tuned either normal GCEA, or down to FBbDG for a really nice deep mellow tone. With the right strings it will even handle baritone tuning.
It is beautifully made and produces a very warm and clear tone. This is helped further by the torrified (a form of artificial ageing using heat which opens up the tone of the wood) spruce top and David’s clever cantilever fretboard design. The fretboard floats a round a centimetre from the soundboard to add to the surface area that vibrates. And you get a really good ear full of that beautiful tone courtesy of the side sound port.
It’s also very beautiful with nicely figured koa back and sides and a subtle and lovely koa rossette. It features Gotoh UPT tuners (my personal favourite) which look like friction pegs but function as geared tuners.
Comes with a deluxe hard case.
