I absolutely love this model from Kanile’a. I can say that with all honesty as I kept telling me of these for myself and my students might have noticed it has become my main teaching and performing uke of late. This design came out of last year’s platinum model. The D shaped soundhole (combined with personal side port) means that the tone comes towards the player as well as out front. But even more important than this, the placement of the D hole means that the soundboard is huge and has all that room to vibrate and produce heaps of volume and tone. That tone is helped further by the use of sinker redwood, which produces a very warm open tone. Sinker redwood is produced from redwood that has been reclaimed from swamps and lakes. It has a tight grain and when used in instruments produces a tone similar to the aged wood of vintage instruments. Apparently this is a limited run with redwood so get this whilst you still have a chance.
This one also features premium koa back and sides, which is really beautiful. The sides especially have a brilliant contrast to the top with attractive sapwood running throughout.
The bevelled armrest is really well done too and makes the uke so comfortable to play.
I can’t say enough good things about this uke. If you can get yourself one and you may never need another uke!
