Paul Ashmore –
I traveled over two hours to view then purchase this ukulele! I had done my research and listened to many reviews and in many ways knew what to expect. Initially, it proved to be wonderful to play, great fretboard and spot on intonation, but if I’m honest a little disappointing in terms of punch. I’m not a fan of Aquila strings, so I persevered knowing that a string change would hopefully give me the sound I am looking for? Matt was very patient and helpful, allowing me plenty of time to swap between my own ukes and others to fully appreciate the Kanile’a. In the end, the overall quality and playability sold it to me! Matt immediately changed the strings to Fremont black fluorocarbons and a wound low G ….boy, what a transformation, a massive jump in volume and unbelievable clarity and note separation….it’s sensational!! If this ukulele does get better when it “ opens up” as everyone says Kanile’a ‘s do, it’s going to be impossible to put down. Thank goodness my wife also owns one!
Definitely recommended for anyone wanting a true professional instrument.
Special thanks to a Matt, he made us extremely welcome and gave me all the advice I needed. The shop is a joy to visit and in such a wonderful setting, I’m sure my wife and myself will be calling again in the future.
