This is a really interesting and special ukulele. Normally when we think of laminate ukuleles we tend to imagine budget starter ukes. But Kiwaya use ultra-thin laminate koa to produce a brilliantly loud and punchy uke with a beautiful tone.
Beyond that what I really love is what Kiwaya do best with their artist range – where they hark back to the vintage ukuleles of the past. These look and play a lot like vintage koa hawaiian ukes like Kamaka white labels. Even the thin neck profile mirrors white label Kamakas, as does the koa fretboard. It’s really cool.
