I’d been considering getting some of these Mr Mai ukuleles from the Far East for some time. They’re really impressive on the eye. Following some great reviews by respected ukulele sites I took the plunge and I’m so glad I did. They’re amazing ukuleles featuring specs that you’d find on ukuleles three or four times the price. They’re not quite as neat in the finish as say a Kanile’a or KoAloha (you’ll find the odd inconsistency – but barely visible), but they’re really good and not even half the price.
This one is a solid koa concert with beautifully figured wood. It also features a wonderful bevelled arm rest which makes it incredibly comfortable to play and is done impeccably. Other cool features are the unique slotted headstock which makes the neck end very light, a beautiful offset moon rosette and very cool inlay markers. These are all features normally reserved for boutique instruments.
The sound is classic koa very bubbly and light. It has good volume but also a really lovely mellowness to the tone when picked lightly. The sustain is a excellent and the whole instrument is very responsive – you can feel the vibrations in your chest as you play it.
Incredible value and something really special.
