We were so lucky to have two Pete Howlett ukuleles come into the shop this weekend. Pete Howlett is one of the very best ukulele builders in the UK and beyond, creating beautiful ukuleles from how workshop near Snowdon.
This is an incredible concert. When I first played it I was genuinely surprised – for tone and volume it sounds more like a tenor! There is a real warmth to the tone and really excellent sustain. The notes sustain beautifully but there is a focus to the tone – very precise and very lovely. It is an absolutely meticulously built ukulele with an amazing hand carved neck. The fiddleback mahogany is incredible – with stripes that shimmer in the light. It features Pete’s winter Snowdon headstock with birdseye maple and walnut.
It has been very lightly played and is in excellent condition. There are a couple of fret ends that are just about showing on the side of the otherwise perfectly smooth neck (pictured) but other than that it almost looks like new.
This one comes with a very nice deluxe hard case.
