Description

The most voluminous uke I’ve ever played!!!

We’re absolutely delighted to stock Phil Davidson ukuleles. For those not already in the know, Phil is world renowned for his luthier skills including building ukuleles, guitars, mandolins, banjos and more. His work is held in very high esteem and we’re lucky enough to have him on our doorstep in The Forest of Dean.

The most recent Phil Davidson ukulele we got in sold within twenty minutes of being on the wall! Phil’s builds use really nice woods, beautifully inlaid headstocks and the tops are so light that they are incredibly resonant.

This is a brand new one made for us by Phil and is very special. It has the most volume in literally any uke I have ever played (and I’ve played quite a few!) The sustain goes on and on for ages right up the fretboard. It is made from solid spruce and Italian flamed maple. The binding and back plate are made from figured Brazilian Rosewood.

This one has a maple bound scalloped fretboard and really nice purfling and rosette. It also features planetary tuners which keep the traditional look of friction pegs but are actually geared tuners. They make tuning a breeze.

The fretboard, faceplate and bridge are all Ebony and it features an abalone rosette and herringbone style purfling all around. Unusually for Phil’s ukes this one has quite a chunky neck. I actually really like them like this as it feels really comfortable in hand.

As with many luthier made ukes you will find the odd tooling mark here and there but that’s part of the beauty of a unique handmade instrument. To vouch for the quality – I have been buying, collecting and selling ukes for years. Of the all personal instruments I own at home 50% were made by Phil!

This heirloom instrument will bring much enjoyment for years to come.
