We’re absolutely delighted to now stock Phil Davidson ukuleles. For those not already in the know, Phil is world renowned for his luthier skills including building ukuleles, guitars, mandolins, banjos and more. His work is held in very high esteem and we’re lucky enough to have him on our doorstep in The Forest of Dean.
The most recent Phil Davidson ukulele we got in sold within twenty minutes of being on the wall! Phil’s builds use really nice woods, beautifully inlaid headstocks and the tops are so light that they are incredibly resonant.
This is a brand new one made for us by Phil and as with the last one, is up there with the very best concerts I’ve ever played. It has a sublime warm and loud tone with really great sustain and real depth. The mahogany Phil uses really does add extra warmth to ukes. This one has a bound scalloped fretboard and really nice purfling and rosette. It also features planetary tuners which keep the traditional look of friction pegs but are actually geared tuners. They make tuning a breeze. Another thing people love about Phil’s ukes are the really slim necks that make playing a real joy and keep the whole uke very light. This whole uke weighs less than 400g!
The fretboard is made out of gorgeous solid Zimbabwean redwood which is had a really beautiful figure.
As with many luthier made ukes you will find the odd tooling mark here and there but that’s part of the beauty of a unique handmade instrument. To vouch for the quality – I have been buying, collecting and selling ukes for years. Of the all personal instruments I own at home 50% were made by Phil!
This heirloom instrument will bring much enjoyment for years to come.
